Susan Wojcickiwho was the former CEO of YouTube and one of the first Google An employee of the company died at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with cancer. She was battling non-small cell lung cancer.
Her husband, Dennis Troper, shared the news on Facebook, describing Susan as his “beloved wife of 26 years” and the mother of his five children. Troper reflected on her significant contributions, calling her “a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many.” He said her impact on both her family and the world was “immeasurable” and shared some family photos to accompany his tribute.
Who was Susan Wojcicki??
Susan was born in Santa Clara, California, on July 5, 1968. Her father, Stanley, taught physics at Stanford University and her mother, Esther, was a teacher at Palo Alto High School, Bloomberg reported.
He began his career as a photojournalist in India. In 1998, Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin rented out their garage for $1,700 a month to allow the company to set up its office.
In 1999, Susan was hired as Google’s 16th employee. She was instrumental in developing key products such as AdSense, Google Analytics, and Google Images. Her home was purchased by Google in 2006 as a tribute to her roots. That year, she also championed the acquisition of YouTube for $1.65 billion. As CEO of YouTube, she grew the platform to 2.5 billion monthly users. In February 2023, Wojcicki announced her decision to step down after nearly a decade at the helm. Her career spanned from the early days of Google to running YouTube, leaving a significant mark on the tech industry.
