UGC issues standard operating procedure for the implementation of the national credit framework
He University Scholarship Commission, User Generated Content has recently published standard operating procedures, SOPs for the implementation of National Credit Framework (NCrF). The guidelines issued by the Commission will apply to Higher Education, Vocational Education, Training and Capacity Building (VETS) and School Education institutions. It should be noted that the National Credit Framework was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2023 within the framework of the National Education Plan and that a High Level Committee was formed shortly after the approval.

The post reads, “The NCrF SOP, notified by the UGC, marks a significant step towards our shared vision of a dynamic, inclusive and lifelong education system that empowers students with skills and knowledge relevant to the 21st century.” The President hopes that the framework will enhance transparency and flexibility in education and contribute to providing skilled manpower to support India’s economic growth.
The guidelines state: “The National Credit Framework (NCrF) notified by the UGC shall act as an overarching enabling and guiding framework to be supplemented by these SOPs and guidelines for all organisations and institutions. As per the NCrF guidelines, one credit is awarded for one hour of lecture, teaching or mentoring per week. Alternatively, two hours of practical or field work, or three hours of experiential learning per week also amounts to one credit. For a semester, one credit amounts to 15 hours of theoretical instruction, 30 hours of practical work or laboratory sessions, or 45 hours of experiential learning.” For further details, one may refer to the PDF attached above.
