Tripura schools to close tomorrow, two-day holiday announced due to heavy rains

The Education Department (School) order stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of students in the prevailing weather conditions.
Additional Secretary, Education Department (School), Government of Tripura said, “Due to the current weather conditions like heavy rains, floods, landslides etc. in the state, it has been decided that all schools like government schools, government aided schools, privately run schools, schools under TTAADC, madrasas etc. across the state will remain closed on August 21 and 22.”
The order directed district education officers to convey this decision to all schools under their jurisdiction. According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Tripura during the next two days. The IMD said on Tuesday that the incessant rains are a result of the influence of the low pressure area persisting over central parts of Bangladesh and the neighbouring region.
Climate in Tripura Update
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Agartala said in a statement on Tuesday that the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is likely to move north-northwestwards across West Bengal during the next 48 hours. “And the mean sea level monsoon trough is now passing over Sri Ganganagar, Rohtak, Orai, Churk, Malda to the centre of a low pressure area over central parts of Bangladesh and surrounding areas,” it added.
According to the IMD, visibility may be affected due to heavy spells of rain leading to traffic congestion. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has also asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah to send additional NDRF teams to support the response efforts. He urged all social organisations, NGOs and dear citizens to remain vigilant and extend their full support during this crisis.
