The trailer and songs of ‘Thangalaan’ have given a glimpse of the fascinating world that the film will bring to the big screens. The makers are travelling across various cities on a promotional tour for the film. However, the team has cancelled the promotional event in Kerala to extend their support to the people of Wayanad, who have suffered from the devastating landslide in the area. The team decided to donate the cost of the promotional events to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
Through their social networks, the creators of Thangalaan They shared a poster announcing their support for the people of Wayanad. They captioned it:
“We stand with the people of Wayanad. The promotion programme of Thangalaan film in Kerala has been cancelled. The cost of the promotion programme will be given to the Chief Minister of Kerala Relief Fund.”

‘Thangalaan’ will be another cinematic extravaganza from the South. It is the true story of the Kolar Goldfields (KGF) when the British discovered it and exploited and plundered it for their own purposes. The film is going to continue the South industry’s surge of offering unique concepts to the audience. It is another South film with an unusual concept.
Chiyaan Vikram Reflecting on his experience, Vikram described ‘Thangalaan’ as the most challenging project of his career. “I have played many unique roles in films like Anniyan and Pithamagan, but Thangalaan is one of the highlights. This is the most difficult film of my career. We faced numerous challenges in every scene, including injuries during the shoot. Even the romantic scenes were difficult.”
“The real challenge was portraying characters from the British colonial era and indigenous tribes, people we didn’t fully understand. We had to embody them, not just act like them. It felt like we had been transported back a century,” he explained.
To fully prepare for the character, Vikram underwent six months of intense training and significantly reduced his weight. He mentioned that the psychological demands of the role were even more demanding than the physical transformation, as the daily shoot required four to five hours of makeup.
Directed by Pa. Ranjith, ‘Thangalaan’, starring Chiyaan Vikram and Malavika Mohanan in a prominent role, is set to release worldwide on August 15, 2024, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The film’s music has been composed by GV Prakash Kumar.
