Stephen’s College cancels orientation program for newly admitted students ahead of new session
University of DelhiSt. Stephen’s College has cancelled its orientation programme for newly admitted students. students According to an official statement, the school cancelled the orientation programme, which was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, without giving a reason.
“Please be advised that the orientation programme scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on August 28 has been cancelled. Regular classes will commence on August 29. Please be seated in the school auditorium at 9:00 a.m. for the morning assembly,” read a note from the school principal, John Varghese.
No reason was given. When contacted, Sanjay Kumar, the admissions officer, declined to comment on the matter.
Classes for the new cohort of students for the 2024-25 academic year are scheduled to begin from August 29. The induction or orientation program is a regular activity conducted to familiarize newly admitted students with the university policies, officials, and the general environment.
The cancellation comes amid controversy surrounding the alleged denial of admission to several students, who have now appealed to the courts.
The university had earlier clarified that admissions were provided to only 5 per cent additional students beyond the sanctioned capacity due to seating constraints.
