- Start by tucking one end of the sari into the back of the petticoat. Wrap the sari around your waist and tuck it into the front, leaving enough fabric to create pleats.
- Place the remaining fabric between your legs and tuck it into the back of the petticoat. On the left side, create pleats about 5 to 6 inches wide.
- Make sure you create 6-7 pleats, making sure they are even and not too tight or too loose. The front edge of the fabric should be visible.
- Bring the pleats together and fold them towards the right side of your waist. Tuck them in slightly to the left of your belly button, making sure they are tight and even.
- Finally, drape the remaining fabric around your back and over your left shoulder to form the pallu.
- Adjust the pallu so that it is even and covers the front of the blouse. Secure it by pinning it to the left shoulder.
The blouse plays a crucial role
Considering that the saree is folded in such a way that it tucks in between the legs, it is essential that the blouse is fitted, without too much fabric or bulk around the waist. The blouse should also match the saree in terms of colour, fabric and design.
