In a significant move to attract more Indian tourists, South Africa The US is planning to introduce the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS) from January 2025. This scheme aims to streamline the visa application process for Indian and Chinese travellers, making it quicker and easier to obtain visas.
The TTOS, an initiative of South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs, will reportedly allow approved tour operators to register with the department and submit group visa applications for their clients. This will significantly reduce the time and effort required for individual visa applications. The department has assured that a dedicated team will deal with these applications, ensuring efficient processing and minimising delays.
South Africa’s target for Indian tourists
The country aims to increase the number of Indian visitors from 16,000 to 100,000 by the end of the year. Currently, Indian tourists account for 3% of South Africa’s international visitors. By simplifying the visa process, South Africa hopes to attract more Indian travellers and boost its tourism industry.
90-day visa waiver on the horizon
In addition to the TTOS, South Africa is also considering introducing a 90-day visa waiver for Indian and Chinese tourists. If approved, this would further simplify travel by allowing visa-free visits for up to three months.
Currently, Indian travelers need a tourist visa to visit South Africa. There is no visa-on-arrival option.
