Malayalam film “Aattam: The Play” won the best feature film award and Sooraj R Barjatya was named best director for Hindi film “Uunchai” at the National Film Awards announced on Friday.
The Best Actress award was shared by Nithya Menon for the Tamil film ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ and Manasi Parekh for the Gujarati film ‘Kutch Express’. The Best Actor award went to Rishabh Shetty for the Kannada hit ‘Kantara’.
Neena Gupta won the Best Supporting Actress for ‘Uunchai’ and Pawan Malhotra won the Best Supporting Actor for the Haryanvi film ‘Fouja’.
The film “Gulmohar”, starring Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee, won the award for best Hindi film. Bajpayee also received a special mention.
AR Rahman won the National Film Award for best music director (background music) for his work in Mani Ratnam’s “Ponnyin Selvan-Part 1”, which was also named best Tamil film. Pritam received the award for best music director (songs) for “Brahmastra-Part 1”.
The awards were announced by the chairman of the feature film jury, Rahul Rawail.
