Let Mrunal Thakur’s Edinburgh trip inspire your next Scottish adventure
Bollywood star Mrunal Thakur has been making the most of her trip to Scotland and her Instagram is proof of it. Planting her explorer feet in the capital of EdinburghThakur was seen enjoying a peaceful moment in a lavender field, strolling through the old town and walking the sunflower route on the outskirts of the city. You too can create a fantastic getaway to Scotland in the second half of 2024 and here are some places that must be on your bucket list!
Lavender farms
This purple landscape comes to life for a period of around six weeks from July to August, giving you the chance to experience the beauty of nature in a stunning, Instagram-worthy setting. Although Thakur was there at the perfect time, you can book your getaway during the same time next year if you want to add the lavender fields to your itinerary. You can choose to visit Scottish Lavender Oils, which hosts open days to give the public a chance to explore their lavender field and learn a little about the process of turning freshly picked lavender into their various products, such as soap or lavender essential oil. You can also visit Kinross Lavender Fields, which will make you feel like you’re in the south of France!
Edinburgh Castle
Perched on a volcanic crag and often synonymous with the city’s iconography, the castle is a must-see for its panoramic views and rich history. This imposing fortress and former royal residence is now an important part of Edinburgh’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites Old Town and New Town. Today, it’s a museum where you can learn more about Scotland’s history and see the Honours of Scotland, the country’s crown jewels.
The Royal Mile
Stretching from the imposing Edinburgh Castle to the majestic Palace of Holyroodhouse, this iconic street offers medieval architecture, lively shops and vibrant culture to all travellers. As you stroll along its cobblestones, you’ll find historic buildings, hidden courtyards and a host of attractions including St. Giles’ Cathedral, the Camera Obscura and the Scottish National Gallery.
Arthur’s Seat
It won’t be a complete trip to Edinburgh without climbing Arthur’s Seat, which dominates the city’s skyline. This former extinct volcano, now a sprawling green expanse, is a must-see for any visitor. The climb to the top, though challenging, is rewarded with stunning views of the Old Town, New Town and the Firth of Forth. The site, where evidence of prehistoric settlements has been found, is thought to have been used as a fortress. Today, it’s a popular spot for hiking, picnicking and just enjoying the fresh air.
Sunflower Trails at Balgone Estate
About an hour’s drive from Edinburgh takes you to North Berwick, where 1,500 acres of Balgone Farms welcome you to a unique ‘sunflower trail’. Thakur also made the trip here and shared stunning images of his time in the countryside. This family-run farm also has Scotland’s largest pumpkin patch!
