Mumbai: The entire nation is now demanding a change in the legal system following the brutal rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. All Bollywood celebrities condemned this heinous act and expressed their concern for the safety of women.
Alia Bhatt, Twinkle Khanna, Shilpa Shetty and others questioned why the strict law on rape and women’s safety is not being enforced in India, as the nation celebrated the 78th Independence Day. And now Pushpa actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has spoken out about the heinous crime that has shaken the nation. In her recent appearance at an event, Sam was questioned about the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata, where change is said to be the need of the hour.
Samantha said it is time to prioritize women’s safety now, “It is the need of the hour and we are looking forward to some change. It is the need of the hour. I hope the change comes soon.”
Along with other celebrities who condemned the act, Hrithik Roshan demanded severe punishment for rape and other heinous crimes against women: “Yes, we need to evolve into a society where ALL of us feel equally safe. But that will take decades. Hopefully it will happen with awareness and empowerment of our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better. We will get there. Eventually. But what can be done in the meantime? Right now, justice would be to put an end to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is punishment so severe that it scares the perpetrators. That’s what we need. Maybe?”
The CBI is currently investigating the case and all eyes are on ensuring that the culprits receive exemplary punishment.
