Kangana in the cast of Emergency
Kangana’s excitement was palpable as she spoke about her first solo directorial venture. Her aim was to create a film of international calibre, hoping to achieve a level of perfection that is rarely seen in Bollywood. One of the major challenges Kangana faced was casting the right talent. She told Etimes, “When my script was ready and it was time to cast, I started getting nervous because we have very few good actors and these few actors are very busy, especially because of OTT. When we started the film in August 2022, getting dates from these actors was incredibly difficult because of the OTT boom. I started getting very nervous, thinking, ‘I have spent an entire year on the script; what will happen if I can’t get the right cast?’ But thankfully, everything worked out and I think it was divine intervention.”
Despite these concerns, Kangana attributes the casting’s success to what she describes as divine intervention. Her film features an ensemble cast that includes Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade and Milind Soman. These actors, despite the hurdles, came on board and helped make Kangana’s vision a reality.
“But there were a lot of conspiracies against me. Actors I approached were called and told not to work with me. Casting directors and directors of photography refused to work with me. Despite that, the amount of respect, love and professionalism I received from those who worked with me was overwhelming,” she added.
