Bank Strike: Are Banks Closed Today?
According to a tweet by Venkatchalam on August 23, the strike notice has been withdrawn.
CH Venkatchalam on August 23 stated on social media platform X: “AIBEA’s call for strike on 28th August 2024 against political attack on the union Management agrees not to take disciplinary action against our union functionaries Strike call is withdrawn.”

National bank strike: Why was the strike called?
In response to the Bank of India’s action against its thirteen officials for attending the Bank of India The 23rd Biennial Conference of the Kerala Staff Union, AIBEA, has called for a nationwide strike. Thirteen officials of the Kerala Bank of India Staff Union have been served chargesheets by the Bank of India.
“Political interference and political attack against the union and vindictive actions taken against the union leaders of the Bank of India Staff Union, Kerala,” AIBEA said in a press release.
CH Venkatchalam published the minutes of the discussions to withdraw the proposed strike on August 28 between the management of the Bank of India, the Indian Banks’ Association, the All India Bank Employees’ Association and the Federation of Indian Bank Staff Unions held at DIFFERENT office in Mumbai on August 23, 2024.
Below are the minutes of the talks between the management of Bank of India, Indian Banks’ Association, All India Bank Employees’ Association and Federation of Indian Bank Staff Unions held at the IBA office in Mumbai on August 23, 2024. Venkatchalam had tweeted about it.
“Discussions were held between the management of Bank of India, representatives of Indian Banks’ Association, All India Bank Employees’ Association and Federation of Indian Bank Staff Unions on the strike notice given by AIBEA and FOBOISU proposing to observe all-India strike on 28th August 2024.
The issues involved were discussed. The management of the bank (Bank of India) explained the reasons for issuing the charges. The FOBOISU explained the factual matrix of the incident related to the conference of the Staff Union of Bank of India, Kerala and informed that BOISU, Kerala had taken immediate and adequate steps to ensure that the name of the Bank was not brought into harm or disrepute and that it was only outsiders/external forces that had unleashed false propaganda and spread distorted facts on social media.
The detailed letter submitted by the President and General Secretary of the Bank of India Staff Union, Kerala was noted and placed on record.
“The facts revealed during the discussions and taking into account the facts that have emerged during the discussions, have been found satisfactory and accordingly, the management has decided not to proceed further in the matter against the concerned employees/officers with any departmental proceedings and in view of this, AIBEA and FOBOISU have informed their decision to withdraw the proposed strike on 28th August, 2024.”
