This is substantially higher than the entry-level fresh graduate pay packages of Rs 3-3.5 lakh offered by the Bengaluru-based company.
“The focus of these hiring categories is on coding and software challenges, programming skills tests and other specialised skill tests for both exams and interviews,” one of the sources said. “For Infosys, these salary packages offered are between Rs 4-6.5 lakh and Rs 9 lakh.”
The initiative is similar to that of a larger rival. Tata Consulting Services‘Prime’ Specialized Hiring of freshmen for software development profiles.
TCS offers wages in the range of Rs 9-11 lakh per year under ‘Prime’, a programme it launched last year. The company has expanded its reach this year, adding newer technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), generative AI (GenAI) and machine learning (ML).
TCS It is now hiring newcomers in three categories: ‘Ninja’, which offers packages of around Rs 3.6 lakh, ‘Digital’, at Rs 7.5 lakh, and ‘Prime’.

TCS and Information systems did not respond to requests for comment till press time on Monday. After a hiatus of nearly four quarters, Infosys plans to hire 15,000-20,000 graduates in FY25, while TCS is looking to hire approximately 40,000 freshers, in line with its hiring numbers from last year.
Typically, the minimum salaries offered to freshers by top IT majors including TCS and Infosys are in the range of Rs 3-4 lakh.
However, due to a subdued demand environment amid a weak macro environment, IT companies are increasingly hiring skilled talents specialized in the cloud computing, AI/ML and cybersecurity space to work on digital transformation projects that are currently on the rise.
“As you know, over the last few quarters we have adopted an agile hiring approach. That basically means we are hiring freshers both on campus and off campus,” Infosys CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka said on the company’s first quarter earnings call last month.
Over the past year, a slowdown in the $250 billion technology services industry has forced most software exporters — known for their massive recruitment of engineers — to cut staff.
In fiscal year 2024, India’s top five IT companies have collectively reduced their headcount by more than 70,000.
While TCS reported an improvement in the June quarter with 5,452 new additions, its net headcount had been declining for the previous three consecutive quarters. For the first time in 19 years, the Tata subsidiary and IT powerhouse had reported a year-on-year decline in its employee base, which declined by 13,249 from FY23.
At Infosys, the workforce was reduced by nearly 2,000 people between April and June, taking the total number of employees to 315,332.
HCLTech said it added 1,078 new employees in the first quarter of FY25 compared with 3,096 in the previous quarter.
Infosys said in its earnings conference call last month that it will resume on-campus placements as well as off-campus fresher hiring this fiscal year.
Together, the country’s top four IT companies are expected to add around 82,000 new employees in FY25, with HCLTech and Wipro They plan to hire 10,000 and up to 12,000 new employees, respectively.
