The HONOR 200 Pro is a premium smartphone, with a sleek design, vibrant display, speedy performance, advanced image processing capabilities, and AI-powered tools for enhancing photos and sharing files. The smartphone ticks all the right boxes, especially when it comes to the premium experience, but it could catch up to the competition simply because other brands have been there long before. HONORHONOR’s entry and users identify with many of these brands. That said, this is what the experience with the HONOR 200 Pro has been like:
Design
The HONOR 200 Pro features a sleek design with a glass front and back, complemented by an aluminum frame. The glass back has a premium feel with a smooth finish that resists fingerprints. Despite its large size, the phone is lightweight and comfortable to hold. The four-curved floating display and soft edges enhance its ergonomic appeal. The power and volume buttons are on the right side of the phone, while the bottom houses the USB-C port, speaker grille, and SIM tray. An IR blaster and another speaker grille are located at the top. The rear camera sensors are housed in an oval frame that protrudes on the right side. Overall, the design is ergonomically convenient.
Show
The HONOR 200 Pro sports a 6.78-inch OLED display, making it ideal for media consumption. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling and a responsive touch experience. The FHD+ panel, while not razor-sharp, is good enough for watching movies and gaming. The adaptive brightness feature works well, adjusting the screen brightness based on ambient lighting conditions. Text looks crisp, and fine details in images and videos can be easily read.
Battery and performance
The HONOR 200 Pro is equipped with a 5200mAh battery, which lasts a full day with moderate use. It supports 100W wired and 66W wireless charging, although no charger is included in the box. Charging is fast, and the device is fully charged in an hour with a compatible charger.
The HONOR 200 Pro, equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, delivers smooth performance. The processor handles multitasking with ease, and app switching is fast and responsive to touch. With 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, there is no shortage of memory and storage.
Software
The HONOR 200 Pro runs on Android 14-based MagicOS 8.0 and offers a smooth and intuitive user experience. While it comes with a few pre-installed apps, the experience is cleaner compared to the bloatware-laden interfaces of its peers such as Realme, OPPO, and more. The UI offers extensive customization options, allowing users to tweak themes, icons, and layouts as per their preference.
Camera
The HONOR 200 Pro’s camera system is a standout feature. The smartphone sports a versatile triple camera setup on the back, enhanced with AI. HONOR has collaborated with Paris-based Studio Harcourt to optimize color, especially for portrait photos.
The 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) delivers sharp and detailed photos in well-lit conditions. Colors are vibrant but not overly saturated, maintaining a natural look. Dynamic range is impressive, with highlights and shadows well-balanced. The HONOR 200 Pro performs decently in low light, and the Night Portrait mode further improves the results.
The ultra-wide-angle lens produces images with good colour uniformity, although some distortion at the edges is common. The telephoto camera, with a Sony IMX856 sensor, offers 2.5x optical zoom and up to 50x digital zoom, while maintaining good colour uniformity and detail. However, quality degrades at higher zoom levels.
The 50MP selfie camera, accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor, captures clear images and adapts well to different lighting conditions. The front camera also supports portrait mode with AI-generated bokeh effects. Edge detection is generally accurate and background blurring looks natural, adding a professional touch to photos.
The HONOR 200 Pro can record videos in up to 4K resolution at 60fps with the main camera, although 30fps is the limit when AI enhancements are enabled. Video quality suffers in low light, which is an area where improvements can be made. The phone also offers noise reduction during recording when the AI option is activated.
Audio
The HONOR 200 Pro is equipped with stereo speakers that offer a balanced sound experience. The audio output is crisp and clear, even at high volumes, with mids and highs well represented. However, it does not feature the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Verdict
Priced at Rs 57,999, the HONOR 200 Pro stands out as a high-end smartphone with a balance of design, performance, and features. However, given the competitive market, the HONOR 200 Pro does seem expensive, especially when compared to other flagship models that offer similar features at a lower price point. While the HONOR 200 Pro is attractive, it will find itself catching up to the competition in India’s lucrative premium smartphone market.
