A former Lenovo Employee Richard Becker has filed a lawsuit against the company’s U.S. subsidiary, seeking at least $1.5 million in damages after being fired for allegedly urinating in the lobby of a New York City hotel. Becker, 66, claims his firing was unfair and discriminatory, according to court documents obtained by the company. AFP.
The incident occurred in February, after a work dinner near Times Square. Becker claims he was feeling ill and, unable to find a bathroom in the main lobby, was forced to relieve himself in a lobby on a separate floor. A coworker noticed and quickly reported the incident to Lenovo’s HR department, leading to Becker’s dismissal.
In his lawsuit, Becker revealed that he has been living with a chronic bladder condition since 2016 and is under the care of a urologist. He maintains that his colleagues and managers at Lenovo were aware of his health condition. Despite this, he alleges that Lenovo conducted a “sham” human resources investigation, during which he was not even interviewed, and fired him within days of the incident.
Becker’s lawsuit claims Lenovo’s decision to fire him was uncompassionate and unlawful, given his medical condition. The suit now seeks $1.5 million in damages for wrongful termination and discrimination.
Lenovo has not yet issued a public statement regarding the lawsuit or the allegations made by Becker.
