Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan On Monday, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu rejected Deputy StalinThe claim that the Centre is denying funds to the best performing states under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for refusing to implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Accusing the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister of trying to pit states against each other to prove that the new NEP has not been implemented, the Union Education Minister said, “Healthy competition among states is always welcome in a democracy. However, pitting states against each other to prove that it has been implemented is against the spirit of the Constitution and the value of a unified India. The NEP 2020 was formulated through wide-ranging consultations and has the collective wisdom of the people of India.”
On the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Pradhan questioned Stalin’s “principled” opposition to the NEP.
“Do you oppose education in the mother tongue, including Tamil? Do you oppose the holding of examinations in Tamil?” Indian languages Including Tamil? Are you opposed to the creation of textbooks and content in Indian languages, including Tamil? Are you opposed to the holistic, multidisciplinary, equitable, futuristic and inclusive framework of the NEP?
Pradhan further asked the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to prioritise the interests of Tamil Nadu students over his (Stalin) political gains and implement the NEP.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu criticised the Modi Government at the Centre, alleging that it has denied funds to the state under a central school education scheme for refusing to implement the NEP 2020.
Stalin said, “Denying funds to top-performing states for refusing to undergo #NEP, while handsomely rewarding those who fail to meet targets – is this how the Union BJP government plans to promote quality education & equity? I leave it to the wisdom of our nation & people to decide!
