‘Satyamev Jayate’ is a revolutionary show of its kind. The show addresses issues that may be uncomfortable for some people. The show aims to look at problems and challenges that are deeply rooted in society and sometimes even offers solid solutions to overcome them. A decade ago, Aamir Khan‘Satyamev Jayate’ was introduced on television as a talk show that aimed to break stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination and was not afraid to explore and discuss taboo topics. The show aired on Star Plus on Sundays at 11 am From corruption to social barriers, the show talked about real issues affecting Indian society.
Another thing that made the show memorable was its songs. Every episode hosted by Aamir has a song dedicated to the theme of that episode. These songs were mostly composed by Ram Sampath and Bollywood playback singers like Sona Mohapatra, Swanand Kirkire and Shankar Mahadevan among others used to perform on the stage of ‘Satyamev Jayate’. Today, the show has completed 10 years since its launch and on the occasion, let’s take a look at its songs that are most suited to the current times.
Bekhauff
Sung by Sona Mohapatra, Bekhauff is the most relevant song today. Despite being released almost a decade ago, every word of the song speaks about the need of the hour. The rape and murder case of a doctor in Kolkata is a testimony to what women face in the Indian workplace and why there is a need for better rules and a better mindset. Ironically, the song is featured in the episode titled “Fighting Rape” and sadly, nothing has changed in India!
O Ri Chiraiya
Chirayiya is one of the most famous songs from the show. Sung and written by Swanand Kirkire, the song featured in the episode that talks about female foeticide. O Ri Chiraiya is composed by Ram Sampath. It has heartfelt lyrics and empowering words that will make you die. Swanand and Aamir definitely did a fabulous job in speaking and presenting what needed to be more than just glorifying the country and its traditions.
Rupee
Sung by Sona Mohapatra, written by Swanand Kirkire and composed by Ram Sampath, the song talks about the forced dowry system in India. The beautiful song also talks about women empowerment and appeals to people to look beyond forced marriages.
The Madari is the Jamura
Once again sung and written by Swanand Kirkire, Kaun Madari Yahan Kaun Jamura was featured in the second season of ‘Satyamev Jayate’. The song talks about the importance of criticising the ruling government when necessary without the fear of being called anti-national or anti-politician. This episode shed a lot of light on corruption in India.
The title song of Satyamev Jayate
Last but not the least, the title track of Satyamev Jayate! The song was written by Prasoon Joshi, composed by Ram and sung by Keerthi Sagathia and Ram Sampath. This song talks about true love for the countryside. The brave, powerful love that can criticize and appreciate, that can uplift and acknowledge.
