For schools seeking new affiliation with CBSE, a Composite Skills Laboratory with all necessary equipment and machinery is a mandatory requirement.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE High School) has directed all schools affiliated to the Board to establish a ‘Composite Skills Laboratory’ along with all necessary equipment and machineries to effectively implement the recommendations of NEP and NCF-SE.
In an official notification, CBSE stressed on the need for setting up a ‘Composite Skills Lab’ as the board believes that setting up the lab would help provide practical skills training aligned with industry needs, improve employment prospects for students in various trades and vocations, enable exploration of diverse career paths beyond traditional options and foster entrepreneurial capabilities among students.
“It has been observed that many schools are currently lacking the necessary facilities and equipment to provide effective practical training. The matter was discussed in the 139th Governing Body meeting of the Board and all schools affiliated to the Board were directed to establish a ‘Composite Skills Laboratory’ along with all necessary equipment and machinery to effectively implement the recommendations of the NEP and NCF-SE,” the official notification of the Board said.
The Board has recommended that schools set up one composite skills laboratory of 600 sq ft area for classes VI to XII, or two separate laboratories of 400 sq ft area each, one for classes VI to X and the other for classes XI to XII.
Implementation schedule:
For schools seeking new affiliation with CBSE, a Composite Skills Laboratory with all necessary equipment and machinery is a mandatory requirement.
Schools already affiliated to CBSE are required to establish a Composite Skills Laboratory with all necessary equipment and machinery, within a period of three years.
CBSE has also recommended that schools that already offer specialised subjects should provide more options to students by offering more specialised subjects. Schools that do not yet offer any specialised subject are advised to offer at least one specialised subject to students.
