Boat Stone Lumos speaker review.
Well, I have reviewed speakers across almost all price ranges over the past 5-6 years, but recently I tested one that not only targets the budget segment but also stands out as a great option for those looking for an affordable Bluetooth speaker under Rs 10,000. Priced at Rs 5,999, the new Boat Stone Lumos features a unique design and LED projections with 7 rhythmic patterns.
Let’s see why I think this new Boat Bluetooth wireless speaker could be an interesting option for those looking for a speaker in this range. I’ll start with the design.
Design
He Boat Stone Lumos Speaker It is quite large but looks good. It has a large handle on the top, making it easy to carry and hold comfortably for long periods. The handle is well positioned, making it ideal for outdoor use.
The speaker feels solid and well-built from good quality plastic. On the back, you’ll find ports for USB, auxiliary, and charging. On the top, you have all the controls you need including volume, power, and mode buttons. A standout feature is the LED projector on the left side at the top. This is a unique addition, especially in this price range and Boat deserves credit for the innovation here. The LED projector adds a nice touch to the overall design.
While the speaker may prove a bit heavy for some people, it is manageable to carry on hikes and long trips. The Boat Stone Lumos is also IPX4 rated, meaning you get protection against water splashes. Overall, in terms of design, it ticks the right boxes.
As for connectivity, the Stone Lumos comes with Bluetooth version 5.3. The speaker pairs easily with both Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth. I connected it to a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, an iPhone 14 Pro, and my laptop without any issues. The connection was fast and seamless.
There’s also an official app, Boat Hearables, that lets you pair the speaker and access various features, including LED patterns. The speaker also comes with a built-in microphone for hands-free calling. My only complaint is the Bluetooth range; it’s not up to par with the performance of some of the newer speakers from other brands.
The interesting thing: LED projector
What really sets the Lumos apart from the competition is its star and light projection feature, which is offered at an affordable price. It’s a cool addition that adds a fun touch to any environment. With 7 different lighting modes that can be synchronized with music, the speaker creates an impressive atmosphere, especially at night.
However, I did notice a flickering when the bass gets intense, especially at high volumes. Despite this, the overall effect is quite amazing. I took it to Nainital for a weekend and this unique feature impressed everyone on the trip.
You can customize the lighting and the flashing LED gives the feeling of looking at distant galaxies in outer space. Overall, this makes the speaker not only unique but also a good choice for young buyers looking for an affordable and unique speaker. A great advantage is that you can avoid buying Neo lights for your room since you already have this device.
Overall performance
The Boat Stone Lumos speaker offers 60W output with two front-firing drivers and a passive radiator for bass. While the bass is decent for its size, the overall clarity of the sound could be improved. It works well for listening to music, but it’s not the best choice for watching movies as it struggles with audio clarity and pacing. It’s suitable for indoor parties, but the bass quality is poor for outdoor use. The speaker offers two modes: the outdoor mode boosts treble and volume, while the indoor mode enhances bass. However, I did notice some flickering with bass-heavy tracks in outdoor conditions.
One of the great things about this speaker is that you can easily control and customize the audio experience with the boAt Hearables app. The app lets you adjust settings, modify sound profiles, and monitor battery life with a simple tap. Dual EQ modes let you customize your listening experience to suit different activities, moods, or environments.
As for battery performance, the company claims that the battery life of this speaker is 8 to 9 hours. However, in actual use, especially at full volume, you can expect about 4 to 5 hours of battery life. If you turn off the lights, you might get a little more battery life, but with the lights on, the performance may decrease. So, if you plan on using the lights a lot, be prepared for a shorter battery life.
Should you buy it?
The Boat Stone Lumos speaker, priced at Rs 5,999, offers good sound and fun LED effects. This unique feature impressed me, but the sound clarity could be better. It is great for listening to music and for indoor parties, though the battery life and Bluetooth range could be improved. Overall, it is a good option for the price.
