Assam government merges all school boards and forms one unified education board as per NEP 2020

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the merger of the Assam Board of School Education and the Assam Council of Higher Secondary Education. The state government has merged both the boards to form a unified Assam State Board of School Education in line with the National Education Policy. PNE 2020The Chief Minister has announced that the new board will synchronise school education to suit the needs of the 21st century.
Sharing the news on the X platform, Chief Minister Biswa said, “In a major milestone to take our education sector to new heights and in compliance with NEP 2020, we have merged SEBA and AHSEC to form a unified Assam State School Education Board. The new board will synchronize school education tailored to the needs of the 21st century.”
“In school education, the National Education Policy 2020 emphasizes the core values and principles that education should develop not only cognitive skills, i.e. both the ‘foundational skills’ of literacy and numeracy and ‘higher-order’ skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving, but also social and emotional skills, also known as ‘soft skills’, which include cultural awareness and empathy, perseverance and courage, teamwork, leadership, communication, among others,” according to the Ministry of Education.
In other news, Assam Governor Lakshman Acharya has announced the nomination of RC Jain as Chairman, Assam State School Education Board and Rukma Gohain Baruah, Chairman, Assam Council of Higher Secondary Education, as Vice Chairman, Assam State School Education Board. They have been nominated for a period of 3 years or up to 70 years, whichever is earlier, from the date of issue of this notification.
The National Education Plan 2020 is based on five guiding pillars: access, equity, quality, affordability and accountability. It will prepare our youth to face the various national and global challenges of the present and the future, according to the Ministry of Education.
