Apple prepares to launch its next generation iPhone 16 Apple will be launching a number of products at its “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9. Along with the new iPhones, the company is expected to unveil several other products, including new AirPods, Apple Watch models, and possibly refreshed versions of the iPad. As new products debut, Apple is also likely to discontinue some of its older models, according to a report from 9to5Mac. Here’s a rundown of the products that could soon disappear from Apple’s product lineup.
iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
Historically, Apple has discontinued its flagship models just a year after their release to encourage customers to choose newer or more affordable options. Following this trend, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, launched last year, are expected to be discontinued. These models were Apple’s first to feature a titanium design, and their signature Titanium Blue color could also be going away.
iPhone 14 Plus
The iPhone 14 Plus, introduced as a larger and more affordable alternative to the Pro Max models, could also be discontinued. This model was Apple’s attempt to replace the underperforming mini versions, offering a 6.7-inch display and long-lasting battery life at a lower price. With the introduction of the iPhone 16 series, the iPhone 14 Plus could be discontinued, although the standard iPhone 14 could still be available.
iPhone 13
The iPhone 13, launched in 2021, is currently the oldest iPhone still available on Apple’s website. Priced at Rs 59,600, it has seen price cuts over the years but is expected to be discontinued as well, and the iPhone 14 could take its place in the sub-Rs 60,000 price bracket until the iPhone SE 4 is launched.
Apple Watch Models
Apple is likely to unveil the Series 10, Watch Ultra 3, and a new SE model at the event. If these new versions are released, the current Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models are expected to be discontinued.
AirPods
Apple has been selling the AirPods 2 since 2019, despite releasing the AirPods 3 in 2021. However, with two new versions of the AirPods 4 planned to be introduced (one to replace the AirPods 2 and one to replace the AirPods 3), it’s likely that both of these older models will be discontinued. The new mid-range AirPods 4 model may also include noise cancellation, a feature not available on the current AirPods 2.
iPad models
Apple is also expected to update its iPad mini 6 and iPad 10, two of its most affordable iPads. Although the iPad 10 was reduced in price earlier this year, it could still be updated, and current versions could be discontinued. The iPad mini is also likely to be discontinued after the release of a new model with updated specs and possibly support for the Apple Pencil Pro.
