Of course, when you are in Amritsar You will want to visit the Golden Temple and the Jallianwala Bagh and experience the history of the famous tourist attractions. The history of the freedom struggle and the remnants of the partition and the history of kings dating back to very ancient times, you will find them in Punjab. Here are some beautiful places near Amritsar that you should not miss.
Sarai Amanat Khan
This architectural marvel has stood the test of time from the Mughal era to the present day. This Sarai was built by Abd al Haqq alias Amanat Khan who was the calligrapher of Shahjahan’s court. He was also the calligrapher of the Taj Mahal. The square courtyard of the Sarai is famous for its glazed tile decoration. This is a feature of Persian architecture, you will see many Indo-Islamic monuments reflecting Persian influences. It is a three-tiered domed mosque structure which is adorned with blue glazed tiles at the entrance. There is also a multi-storey stepwell near the western gate which people overlook. Sarai Amanat Khan is 28.6 km from Amritsar Railway Station and bus services are available from Chandigarh, Delhi, Ludhiana and Pathankot to Amritsar.
Pul Kanjari
Built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Pul Kanjari, this was a place of rest and leisure for the king and his troops. Located near the village of Daoka and Dhanoa Kalan, just next to the Wagha border. Despite the damages in the following years, the complex has had multiple buildings, a Baoli (a bathing pool), a temple, a Gurudwara and a mosque. The religious buildings of the complex show the secular mindset of the king. Interestingly, Pul Kanjari is exactly 35 km from Amritsar and Lahore, this place is home to many tales and legends. It is open 7 days a week from 10:00 to 20:00 hours. You can reach this place by the nearest bus stand from Pul Kanjari and the distance from the bus stand is 300 meters and the nearest railway station is 4 km away.
Attari Wagah Border
Witness the enchanting spectacle at the famous Wagah Border, the border between India and Pakistan, between Amritsar and Lahore. Amritsar and Lahore were very important cities before partition, they served as trading hubs. This joint check post was established at Border Pillar No. 102, which is located on the historic Sher Shah Suri Road or Grand Trunk Road. The village of Attari was once home to one of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s generals, Sardar Sham Singh Attariwala. The famous ‘retreat’ began in 1959 and was agreed upon by both countries. It is a stand-off between soldiers of both countries marching in perfect synchronicity walking to their posts to lower their respective flags. Entering the place will take some time and the ceremony starts at 5:15 in summer and 4:15 in winter, so plan accordingly. Hiring a taxi is recommended to visit the place.
Sahib Tarn Taran
The fifth Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Arjan Dev ji (1563-1606), laid the foundation of the city in 1596 for the welfare of the people along with the Shri Tarn Taran Sahib temple. During the partition, this served as a shelter for the majority of the Sikh population. The city was established with the noble cause of curing leprosy patients. The cause was also helped by the Church Missionary Society’s leprosy home in 1885. The main religious building in Tarn Taran district is the Shri Darbar Sahib Tarn Taran which is the replica of Shri Harminder Sahib, Amritsar. It is also known to have the largest sarowar (water body) than any other. The place is 22 km from Amritsar.

They also offer stays in the village for people who want it. You can reach there by train, flight or road. Located behind Guru Nanak Dev University on the main ring road.
