How Neeraj won silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Neeraj Chopra’s silver medal at the Paris Olympics immortalises his legacy in the athletics and javelin throw category. He became the first Indian athlete to bag two medals after independence. However, the silver medal in Paris did not come easy for Neeraj.
The 26-year-old athlete made it to the final after winning the qualifying round with a throw of 89.34 m. The throw of 89.34 m was enough to comfortably surpass the qualifying mark of 84 m.
Neeraj did not have a great start to the event, as he committed a foul in the first attempt. Before he could get hold of the javelin for his second attempt, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic record with a throw of 92.97m.
The 26-year-old recorded a brilliant throw of 89.34 metres, the best among 30 athletes and his personal best of 2024. Neeraj secured a silver medal with his season-best and second-career best throw of 89.45m, which he achieved in his second attempt in the final.
