This year, India will celebrate its 78th anniversary of independence. The hoisting of the tricolour flag at the Red Fort fills the entire nation with pride and vigor. Belgaum, Karnataka
Belagavi Fort or Belgaum in Kote Kere, Karnataka, boasts of the tallest flagpoles in India. They measure 110 m or 361 ft. The tricolour, as always, flies there in all its glory. It was in 2018 that Ramesh Jarkiholi, the district in-charge minister, unveiled the flagpole. This flag is made from weather-resistant Denier polyester fabric.
Attari Border, Punjab
Attari Border is a major tourist attraction in Punjab. It is known for its geographical importance and lies between India and Pakistan. Also known as the Wagah Border, the place attracts hundreds of tourists daily to watch a spectacle in the evening. Standing at a height of 360 feet or 110 m, it is the Indian national flag which was hoisted here in 2017 by the then Punjab Minister Anil Joshi. The flag is 24 m wide and weighs 55 tonnes.
Bhakti Shakti, Pune
The Bhakti Shakti flag, located at Nigdi, was put up by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in 2018. The 107m or 351ft tall flagpole weighs 42 tonnes and the flag is made of woven polyester. The flag is said to be able to withstand winds of up to 25km per hour.
Guwahati
Not many know this, but Guwahati is home to the fourth tallest national flag, which was inaugurated on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Standing tall at 319.5 feet on the Sarania Hill at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial in Gandhi Mandap, this flag is a sight to behold. It is visited by a number of tourists on a regular basis.
Kolhapur
Kolhapur is known for housing the fifth tallest flagpole in India. Here, the Indian flag flies at 303 feet. The flag is located at the police garden in Kasaba Bawada and was hoisted on Maharashtra Day. The flagpole here is 90 metres high and weighs 24 tonnes.
