The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were announced at a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, August 16. The awards recognise exceptional films certified by the censor board between January 1 and December 31, 2022. The winners will be honoured at a grand ceremony presided over by President Droupadi Murmu in October 2024.
This year’s awards have been an example of notable achievements in various categories. Below is a list of winners:
Sooraj Bharjatya received the Best Director award for his film Uunchaaistarring Amitabh Bachchan. Neena Gupta shined at the ceremony, winning the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the same film.
The Best Actress award was shared between Nithya Menen for thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for Kutch Express.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Shetty He was celebrated with the Best Actor award for his performance in Kantaraa Kannada film in which he played a village goon who realizes his true potential. Kantara It also won the award for Best Popular Film Offering Wholesome Entertainment.
In the category of Best Directorial Debut Film, Pramod Kumar Fouja emerged victorious. The film’s excellence was also recognized with Naushad Sadar Khan winning Best Lyrics for the same film.
The Gujarati film Kutch Express was recognized for promoting national, social and environmental values, while Brahmastra by Ayan Mukerji won Best Film at the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Games and Comics)

The awards for the best films in various languages were also announced, with puthi medicine (Assamese), Kaberi Antardhan (Bengali), Gulmohar (Hindi), Chapter 2 of the KGF (Kannada), Saudi Arabian Vellakka (Malabar), Vaalvi (Marathi), Sikaisal (Tiwa), Ladies (Orthodontics), come on (Punjabi), Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 (Tamil), and Karthikeya 2 (Telugu) all recognized for their excellence.
In the non-feature film categories, Ayena was named Best Non-Feature Film, while Murmurs of the jungle received the award for Best Documentary. The award for Best Non-Feature Film Direction went to Miriam Chandy Menacherry for From the shadow.
The prestigious award for Best Film Book was won by Kishore Kumar: The definitive biography by Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar, and Deepak Dua was honoured as Best Film Critic.
